Christopher is at present attending a Wilton Park conference on China, chaired by Percy. They have had a further word about Percy's planned visit to China. Christopher will be reporting this (copying to the Governor) when he is back in the office next week. But he thought it would be useful for you to know straightaway of two points:

that (as expected) Percy intends to maintain his plan to visit Peking.

that Percy had however made clear that he did not want to cause you any difficulty, and that if you decided it would be better if he stayed elsewhere, he would quite understand that.
