CZ'AUG 1993

I enclose a copy of the notes of our meeting on Wednesday 9th June 1993, with a list of those present. I have also included a full list of contacts in the Group.

If there are any emendations required, please advise the Secretary (071 230 3594). You will also find a copy of the NCIS papers on West African Organised Crime and a short paper on Hong Kong.

You may be interested to learn that as a result of action taken by Detective Sergeant Craig at Kentish Town, 22 persons were arrested in March 1993. Six have been charged with theft and deception offences and await trial, four were to be deported, one is currently appealing against deportation, six are bailed pending further enquiries and five were released without charge.

The meeting of London Borough Auditors on 7th July 1993, (referred to at the June meeting) agreed to the formation of a fraud team and they are currently trawling for investigators.

The hypothetical "Mr Brown" case that was presented at the March meeting has resulted in liaison between a number of agencies and work continues to develop a strategy. I hope to be able to report further developments in due course.

Our next meeting will be on Wednesday 22nd September 1993 at 2.30pm at Customs and Excise, Customs House, Lower Thames Street, London EC3R 6EE and a draft agenda is enclosed.

In view of the limited seating at the venue, it would be very

would! helpful if one representative could act for each agency.
