Others, including those who hold more conservative views and people at the "grass roots" level will be against abolition. It is worth noting that the left-wing press has been critical of the Legislative Council motion, particularly the argument that the death penalty could be open to abuse by the SARG after 1997. The law and order situation at the time will also influence public reaction when the proposed amendments are announced.
