SUPREME COURT APPOINTMENTS

Thank you for your letter of 15 July.

I am sorry that we have not yet sent a telegram approving the two appointments. Although the appointment of Mr Jerome Chan as a High Court Judge has already been approved, I am still waiting for a final answer from our legal advisers on the appointment of Mr Justice Mortimer as a Justice of Appeal. There should be no problem here but I am afraid that it has taken them rather a long time to get round to dealing with this case. I am pressing for an urgent answer and expect to send you a telegram on 19 July. Apologies for the delay.
