The Hon. Mr. Justice John Barry MORTIMER
Judge of the High Court
The Judge was born in England in August 1931 and was educated at Emmanuel College, Cambridge where he was Harmsworth Law Scholar in 1957. He was called to the Bar at the Middle Temple in 1956. From 1950 to 1952 he served in the Royal Tank Regiment and was Prosecuting Counsel on the North East Circuit from 1965 to 1971. From 1970 to 1975 he was a Member of the Bar Council and was appointed Queen's Counsel in 1971. He was a Recorder of the Crown Court from 1971 to 1985 and at the same time was Chancellor of the Diocese of Ripon. In 1980 he was elected a Bencher of the Middle Temple and in 1984 to 1985 was Chairman of the Mental Health Review Tribunal.
