Mr. Jerome CHAN Chun-hung,

Deputy Registrar, Supreme Court

Mr. Registrar Chan was born in Hong Kong in July 1951 and is a married man with three young children. He was educated at St Paul's College and the University of Hong Kong where he obtained his LL.B. and P.C.LL. in 1974, the latter with distinction. He was called to the Bar in Hong Kong in 1976.

Mr. Chan then entered private practice at the Hong Kong Bar where he remained until he was appointed permanent Magistrate in October 1985. Two years later, he was appointed Presiding Officer, Labour Tribunal and in December 1989 was appointed a Judge of the District Court. He did not remain in that post for long and 4 months later was appointed Deputy Registrar, Supreme Court.

Mr. Chan was marked in his last annual report as very good for knowledge and application of the law, judicial temperament and propriety of conduct.

In countersigning the report, the Chief Justice

"He has been earmarked for the High Court

and opinions within the Judiciary and the legal profession appear to favour his elevation. His knowledge of the law, judicial temperament and propriety of conduct are such as to qualify him for a higher post.

Mr. Chan has been sitting as a Deputy High Court Judge since 7 January 1991 and reports suggest that he has been discharging his duties there with considerable success.
