Protoss
I have the honour to submit for your consideration six applications for appointment as Her Majesty's Counsel for Hong Kong, which have been put to me by the Chief Justice with his support. The six applications are set out
as follows.
(1) Mr Gary Alderdice is 48. He was with the Legal
Department between 1973 to 1984. He specialises in criminal work and has done some weighty trials. Both the Bench and the Bar like him and consider him a lawyer of ability and integrity. With very few criminal Silks now in private practice, his appointment as Her Majesty's Counsel will strengthen that side of the Bar.
(2) Ms Audrey Eu is 39 and has been in practice since
1978. Her work is mostly common law, commercial and chancery. She has sat for brief periods as a Deputy District Judge, and has been and is an active member of a number of law relating bodies. She is held in very high regard by judges and practising lawyers.
(3) Mr Clive Grossman is 52. He joined the Legal
Department in 1983, having practised in Zimbabwe. He is a very able criminal lawyer, specialising in commercial crime. He has appeared in the Privy Council and prosecuted in numerous important and difficult cases.
(4) Mr Kenneth Kwok is 43. He graduated from the
University of Hong Kong and was called to the Hong Kong Bar in 1974 one of the first to be qualified entirely locally. His work is entirely civil commercial, land, defamation, professional negligence. He is certainly a man of considerable ability and great integrity, and very committed to Hong Kong.
