a street at Cheung Sha Wan. This needs careful thought on environmental grounds. Secondly Cheung Kong propose that their line should link in with the airport railway at Cheung Sha Wan, but the Government point out that there is no adequate provision in the proposal for a junction at that point. Thirdly, they are expecting a lot more information from Cheung Kong on traffic flows.

Overall, the Government is clear that the ball in the Cheung Kong court and they claim that Victor Li (son of Li Ka-shing) and Albert Chow should be aware of this. They have a great deal of convincing to do before the Hong Kong Government would regard their proposal as a viable proposition, let alone an attractive one.

Haider Barman and John Telford put all this across much more politely than this letter does. But the underlying message was clear enough: GEC-A are backing a horse which is unlikely to

fun.
