1. I refer to your minute of 28 June requesting advice on the procedure for obtaining a slot in the legislative timetable.
2. The procedure is that once a year in the autumn a bid is sumitted by the FCO to the Cabinet Office. It is co-ordinated by Mr Chamberlain, Deputy Legal Adviser, who writes to all Heads of Departments asking whether any legislation is envisaged for the following session.
3. Our submission for the 1993/4 session has already been made, and no new application is likely to be entertained unless it is extremely urgent. I therefore suggest that you ask Mr Ricketts to put in a bid for a slot in 1994/5 when he receives Mr Chamberlain's circular later this year.
