Dear Mr. Green,

DS9 OPEN COMPETITIONS

1.

Thank you for your letter dated 1 February, about your intention to approach the MOD and ODA with a proposal to remove the present age and educational qualification concessions allowed to ex-HMF and ex-HMOCS.

2. We fully support your proposed action and endorse the rationale in paragraph 2 of your letter. We have for some time wondered how, if challenged, we might defend the continuing retention of dispensations which seem to run counter to the spirit of fair and equal competition.

3. While it is true that the numbers taking advantage of the concessions is small in comparison to the circa 3000 applications you receive in this competition, its removal would introduce consistency an bring it into line with each of the other recruitment schemes for entry to the DS in which no such concessions exist.

4. We look forward to learning the outcome of your proposed approache We hope for agreement that the concessions can be discontinued, and omitted from the DS9 Competition Notice for 1985/86.
