(b) A comparison of COMIS 2 and COMIS 3 statistics by Area Advisory Group for 1992/3. These are in statistical and percentage form. For example, they show that Posts in the LATAG area received 1,812 British visitors which was 6.76% of the total number of British visitors received by all Posts, 26,793.

(c) A league table of Chargeable Services for 92/3 (but NB that such work involves only 5-10% of a Commercial Section's time). There are some obvious inconsistencies in a few of the "off-the-shelf" MIE figures, which we will take up with the Posts concerned.

3. We have now received information covering six quarters and will thus shortly have provisional trends. Over the next three months we will be re-entering the 1992/3 COMIS statistics in database (as opposed to spreadsheet) form on the new IT equipment we have just had installed. The 1992/3 statistics are already being entered in database form. When this is completed, we will be able to let you have any information you require about our commercial services, eg the average time spent by Commercial Officers world-wide (or in any individual market) on Market Information Gathering, or the time spent on work for other Government Departments.

4. A word of warning.

The COMIS information we have here is intended for macro management. Micro management is for Posts themselves. The information we now have will be particularly valuable for resource management and monitoring the range of services we offer to businessmen.
