q. A RN Task Force will be operating in the Far East and may be

used to assist the final withdrawal. Options and recommendations

for its composition, ability to take over Garrison operational

maritime and air support functions prior to the final withdrawal,

and the timing and form of its deployment to Hong Kong should now

be addressed in detail by the Naval Working Group and reported to

the HKSC for consideration in February 1994 (paragraphs 37 to

39).

r. The RN patrol craft should continue operations in support of

the Garrison and HKG into 1997 if required (paragraph 39d).

S. The principle that members of the Garrison will require to

deal directly with the PLA well in advance of the actual handover

should be clearly established (paragraph 41).

t. HQ BFHK should be given authority to apply a policy of

disposal of military equipment by exception (paragraphs 42 and

43).

Discussions should ensue with the HKG on the DCA funding

implications of the rundown plan. Detailed costing of changes
