this is the level of engineer support: which is now planned to reduce

from regimental to squadron size in 1994. Reductions may also be

possible in the Defence Animal Support Unit (DASU) and communications

elements. Changes will also be evident in combat service support

elements. This will be particularly so with transport, as the new

Gurkha infantry battalion establishments are implemented and 28 Sqn

QOGTR moves to the UK in November 1993. A Tri-Service Logistic Review

of Hong Kong is to be conducted by MOD ACDS (L) from November 1993,

with completion by 1 April 1994, and implementation of its

recommendations as soon as practicable thereafter. This Review will

provide an efficient and cost-effective tri-Service outline plan on

which the detailed rundown of all aspects of logistic support for the

Garrison may be based.

Ammunition, war maintenance reserves (WMR), and defence stores

held in Theatre are currently under review and are likely to be

substantially reduced, with resultant reductions in supporting

infrastructure.

A compensatory increase in the scales included in JTP

30 would ensure that sufficient equipment would be provided to support

operations in a crisis situation.
