The Director of Electrical and Mechanical Services (DEMS) will be responsible for maintaining vehicles (including non-Government vehicles necessary), plant and electrical and mechanical installations, and for operating certain plant and electrical and mechanical installations on such Government premises as the airport and hospitals. He will also continue to provide major repair and workshop back-up facilities for sewage pumping stations, screening plants and sewage treatment works.

DEMS will organise his staff to provide a mobile repair and vehicle recovery service for immobile vehicles; all other vehicles should be taken to the appropriate workshop for repair. Requests for assistance from the Department should be passed through normal channels, or failing this, to the Joint Emergency Public Works Co-ordinating Committee

(see Part II paragraph 14).

FIRE SERVICES DEPARTMENT

Fire and Ambulance Control is exercised from the Fire Services Communications Centre at the Fire Services Headquarters Building, Hong Chong Road, Tsim Sha Tsui East. If it is put out of action, a standby Fire and Ambulance Control will be brought into operation at 6/F of Tsim Sha Tsui Fire Station.

Fire Services Liaison Officers will be stationed at the GSECC and Command and Control Centres.

45.

The provision of fire and ambulance services will continue as usual; but the attendance of fire appliances at incidents might be at a reduced level and non-emergency removals of ambulance/medical cases might stop.
