INFORMATION POLICY
INTRODUCTION
The Information Co-ordinator (IC) has policy responsibility for the Government's information efforts. During а period of civil disturbances or other emergency, the aims of the Government's press, broadcasting and public relations services will be to
:
(a) disseminate
flow
of
an accurate and appropriate information through all available means of communication to the news media, both local and overseas, including announcements;
all
official
public
(b)
provide
through
RTHK
additional
programmes of public interest;
(c)
advise
the

Government on public relations aspects of the security situation;
help maintain and strengthen the support of the people of Hong Kong for the policies and actions of the Government through the use of publicity and public relations techniques; and
inform Government departments, public utility companies and essential civil firms of particular matters relating to the security situation when required to do so by the Secretary for Security.
Government Television
Information Services (GIS) and Hong Kong (RTHK) share responsibility for the rapid dissemination of Government information. The main means of achieving this are the GIS teleprinter and facsimile networks, RTHK's Own programmes and the material it provides for the commercial TV and radio stations, press conferences and press briefings.
