of a right of approach and entry to HK waters by military and merchant shipping from the south or south-east (the lane passes the NE head of Tan Kan Island in the Lema Group at a distance of about 5 miles, which is the minimum distance permitted for RN ships);

of a right of entry of Chinese civil vessels into the square box and the right of innocent passage through the square box of Chinese warships (weapons on civil vessels should be unshipped or covered and small arms on such vessels should be handed over to Police custody for the duration of stay in the square box);

of freedom of passage through Chinese waters for ferries and hydrofoils on the Kong/Macau, Hong Kong/Canton

Hong routes;

of the rights of Hong Kong fishermen to catch fish in Chinese waters provided that they have registered their vessels with the Chinese authorities and conform to Chinese rules;

of the rights of Chinese fishermen to enter the square box to sell their catches provided they are represented by agents registered with Immigration Department and report for normal Immigration clearance; and

that in accordance with agreements concluded in 1948 (which are implemented Hong Kong by the Smuggling into China (Control) Ordinance CAP 242) the Chinese authorities may operate in certain parts of Mirs Bay and Deep Bay.
