As an emergency looms, a thorough survey of the premises will be carried out to confirm that accommodation and communications are adequate.
IMPORT OF STAPLE FOODSTUFFS

The Trade Department through its local and trade contacts will arrange for the importation of staple foods. In addition, it will be responsible for organising the transportation of such commodities to Hong Kong. The Department will also help importers to obtain finance from banks for the import of foods. Where necessary (and in consultation with Finance Branch) it will underwrite any financial losses incurred by importers.
MONITORING OF FOOD STOCKS

Both A & FD and the Trade Department monitor food stocks that are currently available, as well as projected supply requirements, as part of their normal duties. As soon as it becomes apparent that shortages may occur in the future, the Food Unit Controller must be made aware of the situation.
