In the event of an emergency, the Hong Kong Telephone Company (HKT) will attempt to maintain and operate all telecommunications services for which it

is responsible on a 24 hour basis.

2.

The maintenance of the operation of the telephone system is of importance for the following

reasons

(a)

the GSECC private wire system has only a limited number of subscribers;

(b)

it

(c)

is

desirable

that everybody everywhere should be able to make a 999 call if necessary; and

the failure of the telephone system would undoubtedly contribute to panic and loss of morale.

The Telephone Company will continue to maintain and repair all telecommunication services for which it is responsible, priority being given to the following subscribers :

(a) Government

(b)

Departments

which have

emergency roles (including essential residential services);

public utilities and other vital civil firms (including

services);

essential

residential
