The Postmaster General

will be responsible

for :

Postal

safeguarding departmental property, ensuring the safe delivery

mail to Government Departments and other essential services and operating the most efficient service possible, dependent upon the conditions prevailing at the time; and

Telecommunications Services ensuring that telecommunications services are provided in the best possible manner and detecting and identifying sources of unauthorised radio transmissions interference.

The level of activity varies from 16 hours operation (GPO and International Mail Centre) to 24 hours (Air Mail Centre). Branch Offices operate for 13 hours if they provide delivery service. External operations e.g. on railway shipments, vary during the year. Ships are not normally worked after 5 p.m.
