The responsibility for the surveillance and control of persons and organizations which threaten security rests, especially, with the Police. The Commissioner has various powers in relation to the control of meetings and, as Societies Officer, in relation to the setting-up and subsequent behaviour of organizations. Information on persons and groups engaged, or likely to become engaged, in subversion, espionage or sabotage is provided by the Director of Special Branch.
