casualty evacuation duties; HMY Britannia no longer has a war role.
331. The Department provides and maintains HMY Britannia and TQF,
without charge to the Privy Purse, for the Queen's use. They are available
at her discretion for use by other members of the Royal Family, and TQF
aircraft are also available to the Prime Minister, senior Cabinet Ministers
and other entitled users.
Military Task 1.14: State Ceremonial and Routine Public Duties.
332. The Department provides military personnel for State ceremonial and routine public duties (PD). Although public duties is a defence-wide commitment, the Army provides almost all the personnel. Dismounted PD in London are undertaken primarily by the Foot Guards and mounted
PD by the Household Cavalry Mounted Regiment and the Kings Troop,
Royal Horse Artillery. These two units are specifically roled for PD and
State Ceremonial duties. PD in Scotland is provided by the battalion based
in Edinburgh. In addition the RAF provides the RAF Regiment Queen's Colour Squadron.
333. State Ceremonial includes the Queen's Birthday Parade, the Garter Ceremony, the State Opening of Parliament, State Visits and Guards of
Honour at Buckingham Palace, Windsor Castle, Holyrood Palace (in
Edinburgh), and Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) and Ministry of
Defence State occasions, including VIP visits. Other ceremonial tasks
include the Festival of Remembrance, the Cenotaph Parade and Royal
Weddings and State Funerals.
