APPOINTMENT OF NEW COMMANDER BRITISH FORCES HONG KONG

A 1. The Minister will wish to know that the MOD have informed us that they have selected Major General B M Dutton to succeed
Major General J F Foley as Commander British Forces Hong Kong in August 1994. They have asked for the agreement of the FCO and the Governor to the appointment.
2.
None of us personally know Major General Dutton, but having read the personal and professional details attached to the MOD letter, I can see no reason not to agree to the appointment. I therefore recommend that, once we have consulted the Governor, we respond to the MOD agreeing to the appointment.
