believe that either interpreter fully and accurately reported to Mr. Ho my responses to his questions. I suspected that perhaps both interpreters, and certainly the second one, Mr. Minh, had connections with the police. I confirm that my husband Quang was not at my home on either visit. He no longer lives at 20 Nha Chung. We are separated and have not lived together for many years. I deny that I spoke in an "affable" manner during the meetings. In fact, both Son and I were nervous and confused during the meetings.

11. Regarding paragraph 8 of the Statement, I confirm that I know very little of Phuong's life before he came into my family. I know almost nothing of Phuong's brother, LE QUOC BAO ("Bao"), and I have in fact never met him. I have heard rumours about him, but I prefer not to comment on those. I have no recollection of telling Mr. Ho the matters he reports about Bao nor do I recall Son making the reported statements. I did not promise to find out Bao's address. I have no idea where Bao may be nor do I have any personal knowledge of his condition.

12. Regarding paragraph 9 of the Statement, I confirm that I told Mr. Ho that I am a devoted Catholic. I have no recollection of discussing the general state of religious practice today nor do I recall Son engaging in such a discussion. I do not recall telling Mr. Ho that people were free to attend church 10 years ago, and I prefer to comment no further about religion in Vietnam.

13. Regarding paragraph 10 of the Statement, I do recall discussing with Mr. Ho the many difficulties that Phuong, Chinh and their children faced because they had no Ho Khau and because Phuong is an ethnic Chinese whose loyalty to Vietnam was questioned by the authorities. I confirm that told Mr. Ho that I believed that Phuong and Chinh were forced to move to Le Van Cau, a flood-prone area in Phuc Tan, because of harassment by the authorities. I have no recollection of telling Mr. Ho that my husband Quang never assisted Phuong in trying to obtain ho khau nor do I recall Son making such a statement. As neither of us was in Hanoi in the 1980s, we could have no personal knowledge of any assistance Quang may have rendered.

14. Regarding paragraph 11 of the Statement, I deny that I told Mr. Ho Phuong and Chinh never had to pay tuition for the education of my grandchildren nor do I recall Son making such a statement. In fact, I recall telling him that I had heard that they did pay tuition. However, I have no personal knowledge of this as I did not live in Hanoi while my grandchildren attended 'school.

15. Regarding paragraph 12 of the Statement, I cannot confirm on which occasions Phuong may or may not have left Hanoi throughout the years preceding his departure from Vietnam or where he may have been living at times during that period. I did not tell Mr. Ho that Phuong and Chinh never tried to leave Vietnam illegally before their successful departure nor do I recall Son making such
