I am writing to confirm that the Chief Clerk has accepted the recommendation of the No 3 Selection Board that, subject to medical clearance and satisfactory completion of the courses listed below, you should be appointed to Hong Kong, replacing Stephen Bradley, as Deputy Political Adviser. should aim to arrive at post in May 1993; you should agree a precise arrival date directly with Post, keeping us informed of your travel plans. The tour length is 2 years and the normal full posting is two tours, with fare paid leave between each tour. However in making its recommendation the Board noted that your appointment would initially be for one tour of 2 years subject to a review at the end of your first year in post, ie. May 1994.
