An officer appointed on terms which attract pension benefits who dies in service and has completed not less than 2 years' qualifying service;
An officer appointed on terms which attract pension benefits, irrespective of the length of his qualifying service, who dies as a result of injuries received -
(i) in the actual discharge of his duty;
(ii) not due to his own
wilful misconduct; and
(iii) on
account.

A pensioner who dies before receiving pension benefits equivalent to the maximum commuted pension gratuity, or one year salary (for officer on the New Pension Scheme), whichever is the greater; or

Ex-gratia Payment
An officer other than that employed on agreement terms who has completed less than 2 years' qualifying service and dies while in service.

The amount of death gratuity payable depends on the deceased officer's salary, length of service and whether he dies in service or after payable under the Old Pension Scheme and the New Pension Scheme are set out in Appendix A.
