CIVIL SERVICE BRANCH CIRCULAR NO. 7/93

Nomination of Spouse for Death Gratuity and Ex-gratia Payment

(Note:

Distribution of this circular is Scale A. It should be brought to the attention of all serving officers including those who are on leave. A Chinese version is attached.)

Annex A

This circular announces new arrangements for the nomination of spouse for death gratuity or ex-gratia payment, granted under the pensions legislation.

Death Gratuity and Ex-gratia Payment

2.

The eligibility criteria and the level of death gratuity or ex-gratia payment which may be granted to officers, subject to the provisions of the pensions legislation, are set out in Annex A.

Payment Arrangements

3.

The payment of a death gratuity to the legal personal representative of a deceased officer often takes considerable time because of legal formalities. In order to shorten the time lag for payment, an officer may now nominate, on a voluntary basis, his/her spouse as recipient of the death gratuity or ex-gratia payment.
