Dear Sir
Hong Kong Government Office 香港政府駐英辦事處
6 Grafton Street London WIX 3LB
5 January 1993
Thank you for your curriculum vitae which has been
passed on to us for perusal.
In pursuance of the Hong Kong Government's policy of localisation, recruitment to vacancies in the civil service is normally restricted to local residents in Hong Kong. Should it become necessary to recruit from overseas, such vacancies would usually be advertised in the UK national papers and the appropriate professional journals. I am afraid that there is, at present, no vacancy in the Correctional Services Department which has to be filled by overseas recruitment.
Commercial and industrial firms in Hong Kong which employ expatriate staff from Britain normally recruit through their local agents who also advertise vacancies in newspapers or technical journals. There is no central agency dealing with appointments in the private sector. If you are interested in applying for jobs in particular firms or business concerns in Hong Kong, you are welcome to consult current Hong Kong newspapers and commercial directories held in the library of this office.
We trust that the above facts will be of some help to you.
If you decide to pursue your enquiries further or have specific questions on subjects not covered in this letter, we will do our best to answer them.
Yours faithfully
(Matthew M K Chan) for Commissioner
b.c.c. HK Department (Attn: Bridget Paris)
