HONG KONG FUTURE CONSULATE GENERAL: TRANSITION FROM THE BRITISH TRADE COMMISSION

1.

(171)

Please refer to the paper on "transition from the BTC" circulated by Mr Morris on 4 November. OED's comments on the paper are detailed below.

2.

Para 2 of the paper states that the SOR has defined the staffing requirement as 60 UK based and 200 locally engaged staff: this is slightly inaccurate as the revised and agreed SOR identifies 60 UK based and 156 LE staff. However space has been allowed for future flexibility to cater for another 60 staff (13 UK plus 47 LES).

3.

Para 4 of the paper: the new building will be ready for occupation by 1 July 1996 and will provide some 103,000 square feet of space as well as accommodation for the British Council and nine residential flats.

4. Para 8 of the paper: the current SOR figures for Passport and Immigration Sections are:-

-

3_UK + 69 LEs plus space for future flexibility to cater for 30 additional staff.

Passports

-

245

11 UK + 20LEs plus space for future flexibility to cater for 12 additional staff.

Immigration/Visa

The figures underlined above were confirmed to me by the MVD and NTCD representatives after the meeting on 6 November.
