Hong Kong : New Consulate-General Building & Staff Flats.

1. Thankyou for your letter of 22 October and for a copy of the revised layout of the staff flats. I am pleased to see that there is now a completely separate entrance to the maid's quarter and that you have managed to provided cloakroom facilities for guests.

2. Subject, therefore, to confirmation that there will be adequate space in the kitchen area for a washing machine and tumble drier. I am satisfied with the new layout.

3. On the question of possible C-G use of the multi-purpose hall, I understand that Stephen Day discussed this several times during his two recent visits to London and stated that the

Consulate-General was unlikely to have much, if any need of the multi-purpose hall. The British Council has for its part put down a marker that it would hope to charge for any use by the C-G. It was agreed, however, that because of the space limitations agreed by the Hong Kong Government this issue would not be aired with them and for this reason the room would be referred to as a joint facility.
