UK Rep requirements: Mr Paul expressed his

concern that the UK Representative requirements may not have been fully taken into account particularly

those for the Senior Grade. Mr Paul stated that the

staffing requirements until the year 2000 is

anticipated as 1 x SG, 1 x DS4, 1 x DS5, 1 x DS7, 1 x

S2 and 1 x S3. Mr Morris and Mr Smith will now

appraise further the SOR.

(i)

Mr Buchanan stated that the stair

access to the Student Office (level 1 to level

3) is not acceptable. Mr Smith queried

whether it would be acceptable to utilise the

lifts as a route to the student registration

area. Mr Buchanan and Mr Reading agreed that this solution could be acceptable depending on the adequacy of the lifts speed and

-

capacity: these latter points will now be

checked.

(ii) Mr Buchanan stated that the fire

escape routes, in the British Council wing,

are complicated and not direct from lower

levels. He wished Farrells to consider

further.

3.

The OED visiting team and Mr Morris will pursue, on their return, the issues in para 2 above with the Steering

Committee and the Consultant Architects (Farrells). The HK

Coordinating Committee will be advised of any difficulty in meeting the proposals in para 2.
