1. I had two excellent meetings in London (a) on 14/9 with Mrs Bertram, New ey and Morris (HKD) and (b) the next day at Farrell's (a large round-table involving the Farrell and OED teams, Swire and HKD). We covered a lot of ground but the following were, I think, the main points:

a) state of the design. A great deal had been done since my last visit to London. The access arrangements have been entirely redesigned. A certain amount of fine-tuning remains to be done (especially with Security Department) but the outcome seemed to me satisfactory. There are now 2 separate routes in, with a third screened entrance for VIPS. The routeing of visitors had also been much improved and a connecting corridor added between CG and BC wings. This will facilitate access to the multi-purpose room.

I had one major question. The commercial section had been put on a separate floor from the British Chamber and I urged the solution Mr Smith and I had sketched out earlier, ie co-location around a central space (as now in the BTC). firm decision was taken but I think there was a wide measure of support and Mr Smith and I talked the matter through in more detail after the meeting. He is supportive.

I said I was less concerned about the Information Section: ideally they should be near the Commercial Section but it

would not matter overmuch if they were on another floor.
