DRAFT LETTER FROM MR GOODLAD

To: Mr Alan Haselhurst MP House of Commons

LONDON SWLA OAA

Thank you for your letter of 24 April to Mark Lennox Boyd, enclosing one from your constituent, Miss Irene Goodge of 13 Oak Yard, Halstead, Essex, about the Lorrain Osman case. I am replying as the Minister with responsibility for these matters.

Mr Osman's lengthy remand in the UK flows from the very extensive use he has chosen to make of the appeals procedure. To date, seven applications for a writ of habeas corpus have been heard and rejected by the courts. Mr Osman has now petitioned the House of Lords against the judgment in the latest habeas corpus application earlier this year.

The allegations made in the enclosure to your letter are a matter for the courts. They were considered by the Divsional Court in the course of Mr Osman's unsuccessful fourth and seventh habeas corpus applications.
