a definitive hearing before the House of Lords on that point. My Lord, that is on the point of principle.
We would also seek to draw to the attention of the House of Lords one or two matters in relation to the particular documents that have been produced and their significance to, for example, Mr. Graham Grant's explanation of the suppression, or rather the withholding of the statement of Mr. Mak due to a trial of Mr. George Than on offences for which he was not even arrested at the time when the statements were withheld. There are matters of that sort, my Lord, that we would wish to put before the House of Lords when they consider the point of principle and to what degree the duty to act fairly has been complied with by the Hong Kong Government. My Lord, if I appear to be lacking in further matters, of course, as I say, it takes some time to consider what your Lordship has said in the judgment.
LORD JUSTICE WOOLF: You can put any further submissions you wish
in writing.
MR. THOMAS: My Lord, I am obliged.
One final matter and that is that your Lordship has read from a judgment. If copies can be made available?
LORD JUSTICE WOOLF:
There
Yes, subject to reaching appropriate arrangements with the shorthand writer with regard to that. It is not by any means a perfect rendering of the judgment. were corrections made as it went along, but in due course you will get the corrected version. Subject to the shorthand writer being agreeable and subject to your only using it as an unapproved version, speaking personally I have no objection.
MR. THOMAS: My Lord, I am much obliged.

LORD JUSTICE WOOLF: Are there any further submissions.
MR. THOMAS: I have no further submissions, my Lord.

LORD JUSTICE WOOLF: Mr. Nicholls and Mr. Thomas, the court is
minded to continue to reserve this matter to themselves. of course, it may be, especially bearing in mind that Mr. Justice Pill has certain commitments, that it will not be practical for this court to deal with the matters, but what we said in relation to the sixth habeas corpus application, subject to any submissions you wish to make, "we consider should continue to apply.
MR. NICHOLLS: My Lord, for the Hong Kong Government I would welcome that course. It certainly cuts down the amount of reading.
MR. THOMAS: My Lord, I concur.
LORD JUSTICE WOOLF:
Thank you.
That will be so. As we indicate
in our judgment, we are grateful for the assistance we received.
