I enclose a copy of a pretty amazing rant from Mr Cahill to the No 10 Press Officer under cover of a letter from PS/No 10 to Mr Gass.

2 PS/No 10 proposes not to send any acknowledgement or reply to Mr Cahill's letter, but I am slightly uncomfortable about this. Mr Cahill appears to believe that he has identified a chink in the armour with which he believes we all surround ourselves, and he may try to exploit the absence of any reply as "proof" of involvement by HMG in underhand dealings. I wonder if we or the Home Office should not acknowledge Mr Cahill's letter, with yet another bald statement that the matters to which Mr Cahill refers have been endlessly considered by the courts?

3 I also attach a copy of Mr Cahill's latest missive to me, which appears to invite me to contact Mr Cahill on a basis other than official! I do not intend to acknowledge or respond to this letter.
