You may recall that I discussed with you an application to the ESRC for a grant by Dr A M Findlay of the University of Glasgow to study Skilled Immigration To and Emigration From Hong Kong. In his summary, Dr Findlay described the project in the following terms:

"The project studies Hong Kong Emigration, Return Migration and Expatriate Movements in the run-up to 1997. The focus is on highly skilled labour and will be set in the context of a migration channels framework and its linkages to the recent division of labour in South-East Asia".

2. I have now seen that the ESRC has accorded a grant to Dr Findlay to undertake this research. If you think it worthwhile, I would be happy to contact him in order to try and see how the project is developing and whether there would be any useful conclusions that they could pass to us.

I think it would be worthwhile to do so. From my

& the fours of the research, it may well produce

wed produce more on "migration channels" them on the sort of Paris I am particularly interated in -

eg return migration, particularly confirmation that HK people tend to emigrate, obrain a forager right of dorde, then return home. But will certainly be worth keeping in touch.
