in case the applicant has served as a volunteer helper, he has undertaken an average of not less than 4 hours of unpaid voluntary service per month.

Criteria for Selection

4.

In selecting the initial list of voluntary agencies, the following criteria have been used :-

(a)

the voluntary agency is a genuine, non-profit making body;

(b)

it provides direct medical, educational or social services to the community in a key area; and

(c)

the services it provides are of a sufficiently high standard.

Assessment

5.

Secretary for Health and Welfare has advised that the Hong Kong Heart Foundation provides an important service to the community. As a non-profit making organization incorporated in 1975, it is engaged in organising activities which help reduce the incidence of heart diseases, such as the development of treatment and training facilities, promotion of professional education and research and furtherance of public education. It has established a heart centre and a cardiac catheterization laboratory at the Grantham Hospital, and has organised activities in collaboration with other organisations to raise funds for needy heart patients.
