Publicity arrangements: steps already taken

2

The Immigration Department has -

issued posters and leaflets highlighting the differences between BN (O) and BDTC passports;

explained the differences between the two types of passport whenever immigration officers give forms/advice to passport applicants;

highlighted these differences in red link on the respective application forms; and

distributed passport inserts advising how to retain British nationality after 1997.

To make registration easier, we introduced a postal application system on 1 May this year. Initially this only covered passport replacements.

But, since

1 September, it has also covered first-time applications. People using the system are saved the trouble of queuing-up or applying in person.
