ISSUE OF THE HONG KONG
BRITISH DEPENDENT TERRITORIES CITIZEN AND BRITISH NATIONAL (OVERSEAS) PASSPORTS IN
THE EUROPEAN COMMUNITY COMMON FORMAT
HMG
has delayed
introduction of the "jumbo" (48 page) version of the common format passport (CFP) to December 1990. Since we had intended to introduce both the "standard" (32 page) and "jumbo" versions of Hong Kong British Dependent Territories Citizen (HKBDTC) and British National (Overseas) (BN (O)) CFP with effect from 1 June 1990, we now need to consider a revised plan.

RECOMMENDATION AND ADVICE SOUGHT

It is recommended that

"standard" HKBDTC and BN (0) CFPS should be issued with effect from 1 June 1990, but the issue of the "jumbo" version should be deferred until after its introduction by HMG; and
the
British
Nationality
Provisions) Ordinance (Amendment Order 1990, as set out at Annex A, to lay down the fees for the HKBDTC
(Miscellaneous of Schedule) should be made CFP.
Members will be asked to advise whether this recommendation should be approved.
