Port and Airport Development (PADS)

One major contract is to be awarded in the near future:

The Site Preparation Contact: the reclamation and preparation of land for the airport site. Six groups have prequalified for this contract. One group contains Trafalgar House and Costain International, a second Balfour Beatty, and a third Mowlem International.

Power Projects

Black Point

The contract for the £1.4 bln first phase of China Light and Power's Black Point Power station (consisting of 4 x 680 MW units) will be awarded before the end of the year. GEC Alsthom and Siemens are in contention for the equipment contract, with some £500 M sourced from the UK if GEC Alsthom are successful. Babcock hope to supply the boilers.

Hong Kong is 10th largest trader in the world. Re- exports now account for over two-thirds of total domestic exports, China being the largest market for, as well as source of, Hong Kong's re-exports (29% and 59% respectively of total for 1991).
