I thoroughly enjoyed meeting you on Thursday and was fascinated to hear about your views of and plans for the future. Hong Kong and China really are the most exciting and exhilarating of places. I was as concerned as you to hear about the problems you had experienced at Lamma Island, particularly after all you had done to allow NEI to become involved with HKE.
As I promised, I have since asked Mr Peter Lockton, Overseas Projects Director of NEI, about the performance of Unit No 6 at Lamma Island. He assures me that the unit performed well for six months until 20 June. Engineers corrected the problem that arose then by 5 July. Since then the unit has met all requirements. There have been no new problems or restrictions on operation. I understand that HKE representatives are visiting NEI in England to review NEI's quality standards.
I hope that you will find NEI's product fully up to scratch. I know you will give their bid for Units 7 and 8/careful consideration in due course.
