We spoke this morning about the possibility of my stopping off in Hong Kong on my way to the IISS Annual Conference in Seoul from 9 to 12 September. We agreed that as there is likely to be a good deal of Hong Kong business to be conducted by Ministers in the Autumn in OPDK this would be a good opportunity for me to acquaint myself on the spot with the issues. I should certainly find this very useful if it were convenient for colleagues the Hong Kong end. You kindly said you would see what could be done.

I shall have to make the stopover on the way out to Seoul where I must arrive by the evening of Wednesday 9 September. There is a BA flight from Hong Kong leaving at midday that day. Working back from that, I could arrive in Hong Kong on the BA Sunday/Monday flight which gets in at 1730 local time Monday. This would give me a full working day (Tuesday) for a programme.

I look forward to hearing whether a visit on these lines would be possible at the Hong Kong end.
