There are close ties between Canada and Hong Kong. Canada's total immigrants come from Hong Kong. There is

therefore a large Hong Kong community living in Canada and a

great deal of money from Hong Kong has been invested in Canada. The Prime Minister could say:

grateful for constructive Canadian interest in Hong Kong affairs. Useful if you can take opportunities with Chinese

to emphasise importance you attach to Hong Kong's continued

stability and prosperity as set out in Joint Declaration.
