MY VISIT TO WASHINGTON

I have just received the attached programme for my visit to Washington next week. I do not need detailed briefing. I have asked Mr Hewitt to let me have a short brief on Boat People since the signature of ORP II will be very much in the public domain during my visit. I should be grateful if FED could let me have a short brief on the McConnell Bill, with a line to take. I should also be grateful if they could provide a similar brief on North Korea Nuclear.

2.

Those points apart, I should be glad to receive any material Departments wish to send me on special points to make to the Americans. But please do not feel obliged to provide routine briefing.

All material should reach my PA by lunchtime on Monday 11 May.
