(CONCLUDING REMARKS)

Soon after I assumed the post of the Consul-General, one journalist asked me what I hoped to achieve in Hong Kong. In reply, I said I had three main aims. They are;

Firstly, I want to develop further the already good cooperative

relationship between Japan and Hong Kong in all field at any level.

Secondly, I want to play a part in helping to maintain Hong Kong's stability and prosperity. I would like to do my utmost to cooperate with the people of Hong Kong to ensure that this stability and prosperity be

preserved beyond 1997.

Thirdly, I want to learn as much as possible of the experiences of Hong Kong people. I cannot help admiring the energy, dynamism, creativity and international mindedness of Hong Kong. There is so much

to learn from the experiences of Hong Kong.

This is what I said at that time. After 6 months' stay here, I feel in

the same way.

It is easier said than done. And without personally knowing individuals of Hong Kong people and without having frank

discussions with them, I shall not be able to achieve my aims. So in

concluding, I want to express my sincere hope that I shall be able to be

benefited by good and personal acquaintance with each one of the

distinguished members of this Association.
