ON THE 29TH SEPTEMBER, 1992

Mr.Chairman, Ladies and Gentlemen,

I should like to thank the Hong Kong Shipowners Association LTD.

for inviting me to this Association luncheon in my honour today. I

should like also to thank Mr.Cowling for his very kind words of welcome

and introduction. It is a great honour and pleasure for me to be given

the opportunity to talk about my views on the cooperative relations

between Japan and Hong Kong before this gathering of the distinguished

members of the prestigious Hong Kong Shipowners Association. As I

understand, the membership of this association extends beyond

shipowning companies, and its members are those companies who have

made Hong Kong what it is today and who have made Hong Kong very

attractive to all. As was introduced by Mr.Cowling, I am relatively new

here. I took my assignment 6 months ago. I am not sure I am competent
