As the year 1992 marks the 20th anniversary of the
normalisation of the relationship between Japan and China, both
sides agreed to step up the momentum for furthering a
constructive bilateral relationship towards the 21st century.
We agreed that General Secretary Jiang Zemin and Chairman of the
National People's Congress Wan Li should visit Japan this year.
The Chinese side repeated its invitation to The Emperor and
Empress of Japan to pay a visit to China. I would certainly

like to use the opportunity of Mr. Jiang Zemin's visit to our
country to encourage China to promote her reform and open policy
in both the political and economic fields.
