UK-JAPAN 2000 GROUP DINNER, 7 MARCH

1. The PUS has been invited to join the UK-Japan 2000 Group for dinner at Brocket Hall on Saturday 7 March. David Howell MP rang the PUS today to ask whether he would be prepared to speak for five minutes during the dinner, on the subject of British policy towards Hong Kong, South East Asia and the Far East. The intention is that the PUS should kick off a discussion around the dinner table.

2. The PUS would be grateful for a short list of key questions that he might invite the participants to discuss. They should be limited to the key challenges facing British policy in the region in the coming decade.

3. Would you kindly pull together the thoughts of copy recipients, and let the PUS have something by close of play on Thursday 5 March (he will be in Hull on Friday, travelling straight from there to the dinner on Saturday night).
