Summary of events by detained staff

On Thursday, June 11, 1992, an employee of Pinkerton (Asia) Ltd, (hereinafter referred to as "BC"), left his home in Hong Kong at 1000 hours to travel via Shenzhen to Guangzhou. He travelled to Sheung Shui and boarded a train to LowU. At Lowu, BC passed through Hong Kong Immigration and Customs and walked across the bridge joining the two immigration buildings on either side of the border. On the Chinese side, he presented his travel documents at a checking counter. He observed staff access a computer terminal. The staff then re-checked the computer terminal and compared the information on screen with BC's travel documents. He then said "You CHEUNG KAM LUN, 30 years old, native of Law Ting, we are looking for you.

BC was led to an area behind the desk and several uniformed border police came and stood by him. His travel documents were removed.

At about 1300 hours, BC was told that

told that he was wanted and was instructed to follow the uniformed border police. He was taken to a room to one side of the building. Ingide the room, BC was instructed to take everything out of his pockets and hand over all property. In anticipation of the detention, BC requested a visit to the washroom where he hid some money on his person.

He was subsequently led out of the main border complex to a small group of buildings by the railway. On arrival, he was placed in a cell and noted the time, according to a watch worn by one of the border police, to be 1330 hours.

BC was detained at this location on Thursday night and Friday night. Initially on his arrival, the cell opposite to his was occupied. On Friday evening, another detainee was led into his cell. While held there, BC requested other persons detained and a border guard to contact his family.
