BACKGROUND

Mr David Alton MP is well known to us and regularly asks questions on South East Asia and human rights issues.

Mr Alton may be confused over the reference in a recent TV programme to Hong Kong patients travelling to China for transplant operations involving organs taken from recently executed prisoners.

It would be illegal for anybody from China to be brought to Hong Kong against their wishes. Hong Kong people are of course free to travel to China for any reason.

We do of course abhor organs from executed political prisoners in China, or anywhere else, being used in transplant operations.
