HKD contributions for the adjournment debate on human rights in China

WHAT THE CHINESE ARE DOING IN TIBET THEY WILL DO IN HONG KONG AFTER 1997/ NO PROTECTION FOR HUMAN RIGHTS AFTER 1997

- Do not believe that the analogy is correct. The Joint Declaration, an international treaty registered at the UN, lays down a series of guarantees for human rights in Hong Kong after 1997. For example, it provides that "Rights and freedoms, including those of the person, of speech, of the press, of assembly, of association,...of religious belief...will be protected by law".

- In addition the Hong Kong Government last year enacted a Bill of Rights which enshrines into Hong Kong Law the International Covenant on Civil and Political Rights which the Joint Declaration and future Basic Law guarantee will remain in force.

MISTREATMENT OF CHINESE DISSIDENTS IN HONG KONG/UK NOT TAKING ITS FAIR SHARE OF CHINESE DISSIDENTS FROM HONG KONG

-All asylum cases are considered under the criteria of the 1951 United Nations Convention relating to the status of Refugees. We have not received any representations from other countries that they are dissatisfied with our approach with regard to individuals in Hong Kong.

FED already have a line to take on use of Organs from executed prisoners.
